Feds plan to study large truck accidents

The FMCSA announced plans for a new study of how truck accidents happen. The study will take into account factors that had little to no impact 15 years ago. They include:

- Fleet management systems
- Automatic emergency braking systems
- Texting and cellphone distractions
The study could help reverse an alarming trend. FreightWaves reports that crashes involving large trucks have steadily increased since the previous study.

The FMCSA has posted a formal proposal and is seeking information on the best way to design and conduct the study.
